The Indian and global box office witnessed contrasting trends this week. On one hand, Baaghi 4, led by Tiger Shroff, is showing clear signs of slowdown despite a decent opening. Meanwhile, The Bengal Files is steadily growing at the box office despite controversies and limited promotions. Adding to the drama, Hollywood’s The Conjuring: Last Rites has stormed the global box office, breaking records for the biggest-ever overseas horror debut.
Baaghi 4 opened with promising numbers, collecting around ₹13.40 crore on Friday. But the momentum quickly dipped, with ₹10.20 crore on Saturday and ₹9.80 crore on Sunday, bringing the three-day total to ₹33.40 crore.
Despite Tiger Shroff’s fan following, the film is slowing down faster than expected. Trade experts cite formula-driven storytelling, repetitive action, and lack of fresh appeal as key reasons for its decline. While the opening was strong, the downward trajectory indicates weakening audience interest.
On the other side, The Bengal Files started with modest numbers but showed consistent growth across the weekend. The film earned ₹1.75 crore on Friday, ₹2.5 crore on Saturday, and ₹3 crore on Sunday, making a total of ₹7.25 crore in 3 days.
What makes this performance remarkable is the backdrop: the film had no PR buzz, minimal promotions, and no Bollywood star support. In fact, some industry voices, including Hrithik Roshan, criticized the movie even before its release. Despite this, the movie is rising steadily, powered by word-of-mouth, strong regional connections, and curiosity sparked by controversies.
While Baaghi 4’s numbers look higher in absolute terms, its downward curve suggests a fading audience pull. In contrast, The Bengal Files’ upward graph hints at a film that could enjoy longer sustainability at the box office.
Meanwhile, Hollywood’s The Conjuring: Last Rites is rewriting horror history. The film earned $34.6M on Friday, $30.3M on Saturday, and $25M on Sunday in the U.S., totaling $89.9M in 3 days. Adding another $104M from overseas markets, the worldwide figure has already hit $193.9M as of 7 September 2025.
This makes it the biggest-ever overseas debut for a horror film, breaking multiple records for the genre. Strong brand recall, high-quality storytelling, and global fan following have all fueled its meteoric success. Unlike Baaghi 4 or The Bengal Files, the Conjuring franchise thrives on an international scale and trust, proving horror remains one of the most bankable genres.
The weekend highlighted three contrasting stories:
Baaghi 4 slowed down after an initial strong start, hurt by franchise fatigue.
The Bengal Files showed growth, defying a lack of promotions and Bollywood support, purely on audience interest and word-of-mouth.
The Conjuring: Last Rites dominated worldwide, setting new benchmarks for horror films.
Together, these films underline that star power and big budgets don’t always guarantee success, controversies can sometimes boost interest, and global franchises like The Conjuring continue to command unmatched box office pull.
