Tea is one of the most consumed beverages all around the world after water. Manufacturers produce different types of tea by harvesting and processing the tea plant in different ways. After harvesting and other processes, tea leaves go through an oxidation process to let the enzymes break down chemicals in the leaves producing the brownish colour and flavour of the tea. Oxidation primarily turns green leaves into dark brown when left exposed to moist and oxygen-rich air. The process of oxidation also imparts nutritional benefits to the tea that protects your body from potential diseases. Green tea is also manufactured from the same plant as Black tea but is not oxidized, hence it has a green colour.

The black tea leaves of the plant called Camellia sinensis have caffeine and other antioxidants required by the body to fight various infections. Black tea extracts are also used to make herbal supplements that contain a considerable amount of vitamins, minerals, and nutritional benefits of herbs.

Nutritional value of black tea:

  1. Carbohydrates
  2. Proteins
  3. Amino acids
  4. Polyphenols
  5. Caffeine
  6. Chlorophyll
  7. Aluminum
  8. Fluoride
  9. Minerals

Polyphenol content in black tea gives it an antioxidant effect which helps protect the body from changes that lead to disease. Black tea contains more caffeine than other teas but less than coffee which also helps to reduce inflammation in the body.
