Coronavirus India News Live Updates: Centre has allocated only 15 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Delhi for July, says Manish Sisodia

Almost 90 percent of the districts in the country have been witnessing a sharp fall in the number of active cases. According to Union Health Ministry data, in the week to June 19, just 70 districts in the country reported an increase in active cases – a good sign for the country which was battling the deadly second wave with a stretched healthcare infrastructure during April and May. Pick up in Covid-19 vaccination is also one of the reasons for the decline in active Covid-19 cases. India so far has vaccinated over 28,00,36,898 people against Coronavirus, according to data from the Union Health Ministry.

India reported 53,256 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in 88 days, in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 2,99,35,221, according to the Union Health Ministry data on Monday. The number of active Covid-19 cases in the country further reduced to 7,02,887. The death toll climbed to 3,88,135 with 1,422 fresh fatalities, the lowest in 65 days, the Health Ministry said.

With Coronavirus shrinking in the country, several states/UTs have started the process of unlocking. National Capital Delhi yesterday allowed parks and bars to open up; it also extended timings for restaurants. Telangana opened up completely from Sunday. States/UTs like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir have begun gradual unlocking. Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, Odisha, Kelara, and Tamil Nadu have eased Covid-19 restrictions and allowed more services/activities as Covid-19 cases continue to fall.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the government has decided to increase the pace of Covid-19 vaccination in July and August. Shah said with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to provide free vaccine against COVID-19 to people aged 18 and above, “we will fast achieve the goal of inoculating almost everyone”, as reported by PTI.
