Thinking about starting a business can give you a decent hit of dopamine when you start to imagine all of the success you could achieve, the freedom you want to manifest, and the work hours that you will have (mostly) under your control, but it can also feel a little daunting.
Businesses can be hard work, especially if you are looking to “go big or go home.” However, if you are seriously considering the prospect of working at home, then the good news is that could be a realistic option.
You don’t always need thousands of dollars to get started (though it will usually help!) so if you have an idea and can get the basics, give it a go!
Make A Schedule
The first task you need to prioritize when working for yourself and working from home is to be disciplined with your time. It can be so easy to “get to that tomorrow” or to just do a little bit here and there, but making a schedule is crucial to measuring your progress and also working towards your goals.
Find a schedule that works for you, and make sure you have time to rest as well in between—don’t skimp on sleep!
Some people find it useful to set up their own workday, dress for work, and stick to those hours to keep momentum.
Create a Dedicated Workspace
Working from home, especially if you are starting your own business, can feel strange if you don’t have a dedicated workspace. If you are on the sofa it can be all too easy to just switch on the TV and take a 5 (or 50) -minute break, and if you are working from your bed the idea of a nap probably doesn’t need to be whispered by your brain more than once.
Clear out a space, even if it is in one of these rooms, and dedicate it to your working area. As your business progresses, you might find that you need more space but either can’t (or don’t want to) move to an office with an annual lease and all of the expenses that come with it. A storage unit can be the perfect next step up for many businesses, so take a look at self storage Huntingdon for more information.
Don’t Isolate Yourself
It can be incredibly easy to isolate yourself when you start a business from home, especially if it is only you who is doing all of the work. Make sure to leave the house regularly, interact with other people, and even consider networking from the get-go! This is an important part of getting your business out there, finding collaborations that fit, and generally getting on the map.
Don’t forget to go out to have fun either! When you run your own business, it can be easy to think about it 24/7, but both rest and rejuvenation are essential to your health (and also the health of your business too).
