Pushkar Singh Dhami (born 16 September 1975) is an Indian politician and a senior member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He has been serving as the 10th and current Chief Minister of Uttarakhand since July 2021, becoming the youngest CM in the state’s history. Known for his grassroots political journey, administrative discipline, and focus on youth empowerment, Dhami has emerged as one of the key faces of the BJP in northern India.
Pushkar Singh Dhami was born in a Kumaoni Rajput family in Tundi village, Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand. His ancestral village is Harkhola, Pithoragarh. His father, Sher Singh Dhami, served in the Indian Army and retired as a Subedar, while his mother, Vishna Devi was a homemaker.
He studied in Tundi till class 5, after which his family moved to Nagla Tarai Bhabar, Khatima. Coming from a modest background, Dhami’s early exposure to discipline and patriotism shaped his leadership qualities.
He is married to Geeta Dhami, a homemaker, and the couple has two sons.
Pushkar Singh Dhami holds a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management & Industrial Relations (MHRM & IR) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), both from Lucknow University. He also completed a Diploma in Public Administration, reflecting his strong academic foundation in governance and public policy.
Pushkar Singh Dhami’s political career spans over three decades:
1990 – Entered politics as a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS.
2001 – Appointed as Political Advisor to then CM Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
2002–2008 – Served as State President of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), advocating 70% reservation for local youth in industries.
2012 – Elected MLA from Khatima constituency for the first time.
2017 – Re-elected from Khatima.
2021 – Sworn in as the 10th Chief Minister of Uttarakhand at age 45, becoming the youngest CM in the state.
2022 – Lost Khatima seat to Congress leader Bhuwan Chandra Kapri, but BJP MLAs re-elected him as CM. Later, he won the Champawat bypoll with a huge margin.
