CA Foundation Course duration– According to new updates, the ICAI has enabled the online enrollment for CA Foundation Course. We can do the registration on www.icai.org. The duration of overall completion of the CA Foundation course ideally should be four months. There are eligibility criteria for CA Foundation registration. The minimum criteria who are eligible to register for CA Foundation Course can either be in 12th standard or are graduated from school.

CA Foundation Course is the beginning milestone or an entrance exam conducted by ICAI. It takes place twice a year, firstly in March month and secondly in November month. Pursuing CA is tough, due to the growing competition and competitive checking. It is a rare sight if a student passes all CA levels in the first attempt only.

Earlier, ICAI used to conduct CPT as the entrance exam but on July 1, 2017. It was exempted, and the board started conducting CA Foundation Exam. In CA Foundation, there are four papers from the commerce field to give the knowledge and at the same time check the commerce knowledge of each student. The CA curriculum has four subjects and conducts individual papers for each subject. The CA Foundation 2021 Registration Last Dates for May/ June attempt is 1 Jan and for Nov/Dec attempt is 1 July.

Difference between CA Foundation Registration and CA Foundation Application Form

Many students often get confused between the CA Foundation registration and CA Foundation application form. So let us clear it for you. The CA foundation registration gets you enrolled in the course but the eligibility of giving the exam is not being provided through this form. Even if if the candidate has not been registered for the examination, then still he/she will be registered for the course.

While Candidates will be eligible to give the exam only if he/she has filled the application form for the course. The application form is for a single attempt while the registration is for six attempts, i.e. three years. Even after three years, a person can again re-validate its registration if he/she needs more attempts to pass the exam.

Hence, CA Foundation registration registers a candidate on the CA Foundation course while the application form provides eligibility to take the exam.

CA Foundation Registration Eligibility

The CA foundation course is the entrance course. Hence, only the eligible aspirants can get into the course of CA. The CA Foundation course is ambiguous and difficult to crack. Hence, students after passing the 12th standard and a few even in class 12th start preparing for the CA Foundation exam. Although an exam can be given after passing the 12th standard only.

Earlier, the students after completing class 10th were eligible for CA Foundation registration. But now a candidate should appear for CA foundation after clearing class 12 th exam. Although, more feasible is to register after 12th or while studying on 12th. So that there is no scope of mind change or procrastination.

CA Foundation registration after 10th

As per the new regulations announced in 2020, the 10th pass students can also register for the CA Foundation exam. As per the approval of the government of India. ICAI now enables the provisional registration of 10th pass students for the CA Foundation. Although, they must have given a 10+2 examination before appearing for foundation exams. The process of registration is online while the fees structure and 4-month preparation leave are still the same.

CA Foundation Registration after 12th

The basic eligibility criteria for anyone to sit for the CA Foundation exam is to be a 12th pass. Furthermore, this is also the right time to get yourself registered for the CA Foundation exam as one can sit in the exam after four months of preparation and does not need to overthink with the extra time in hand. CA Foundation Exam Registration

ICAI has opened the new online registration and application form filling portal on www.icai.org. After registering, one needs to fill the application form to get eligible for CA Foundation Exam. One has to first fill in the sign in details operated at the time of enrollment. There will be a dropbox for the CA Foundation Exam application form. Further, you just have to fill the form as per the given details. And then move towards the payment option. After payment, take a screenshot and save the payment of the receipt.

CA Foundation Course Duration

The CA Foundation course duration as per ICAI is for four months. But due to failure in passing the exams, students take multiple attempts. The step-by-step guide to of CA Foundation course duration is below.

1st Step: After clearing of 10+2 exam students get enrolled with the Board of Studies (BOS). CA Foundation Registrations are allowed before December 31 for May Session and before June 30 for the November session.

2nd Step: CA Foundation required complete study of 4 month

3rd Step: Apply for CA Foundation as per the schedule.

4th Step: Appear for Foundation examination on November/ May.

5th Step: Qualify Foundation Course and then register for the Intermediate Course.


Students who pass the CA foundation exam are eligible to go forward with their CA degree. But without passing the Foundation exam, the students cannot go to the intermediate level. Hence, it is vital to enroll for the CA foundation exams timely. While anyone who has passed the 12th can go for the CA Foundation exam. Although this year has been an exception where a provisional registration has been added, in which students who are still in 12th std can register with their 10th std mark sheet. Although they can give an exam after passing the 12th examination only.
