Uyi Uwadiae moved from London to the USA as a young man. Raised in the Midwest, his family taught him the value of community, especially those who have shared memorable moments in a person’s life. On some of his many hiking and camping trips, Uwadiae has forged the strongest bonds with family, friends, and colleagues.
Here are some of the best hiking trails that Uyi has uncovered. They all have striking scenery and trails for all levels of outdoor experience.
Located in the west-central part of Washington state, the Mount Rainier National Park offers plenty of family-friendly trails that don’t require too much physical exertion. You will find trails that range from 2.5 miles to the 45-mile Northern Loop Trail. Look for volcano peaks, caves, and glacial formations within this magnificent landscape.
This southwestern region of the United States is home to Devil’s Bridge and Cathedral Rock, both popular trails in Sedona, Arizona. These two trails are a geologist’s dream world, with many red rock formations, natural sandstone pillars, and limestone and dolomite dating back 270 million years.
Also in Washington State, the Mount Si Main Trail offers a more strenuous 8-mile roundtrip trek with 3,200 feet of elevation. Nestled in the foothills of Mount Si, the trail is extremely popular for bragging rights, witnessing some of the oldest and largest trees within the Continental U.S., and a fantastic view of Puget Sound.
Omoruyi Uwadiae has hiked the challenging Mount Townsend, about 8.5 miles out and back. Some trails are heavily wooded, while others feature lush, open meadows or snowy mountain vistas. This hike can be challenging, with steep uphill grades and downward slopes, and with an elevation gain of about 2,900 feet, you should be prepared for a drop in temperatures.
Camelback Mountain is another scenic trek through the Midwest in the Phoenix Valley with two popular hiking trails, Echo Canyon and Cholla. This top hiking destination features unobstructed views of desert landscapes and urban vistas, namely Scottsdale and Phoenix. Named for its camelback shape, these trails are frequented by many rock climbing enthusiasts from across the nation.
Uyi enjoys hiking Rattlesnake Ledge for a more moderate challenge and the chance to greet some of the many walkers and hikers along the 5-mile trail. The trail is well-maintained, and while you won’t likely encounter any rattlesnakes, carrying a can of bear spray is recommended, just in case!
For a more challenging hike, the Snow Lake Trail offers stunning waterways, alpine vistas, and towering mountain peaks. While the elevation gain is only 1,800 feet, the 7-mile trail is excellent if you want to camp, experience waterfalls, and view old-growth trees. It is also famous for winter hikes, as long as you have the proper gear and know how to read the snowpack for any signs of a possible avalanche.
