IIFT Selection Process 2021
IIFT has released 700 successful candidates for their Delhi and Kolkata campus of 2021-23 session. The candidates had to undergo The candidates wrote four rounds of the selection process Examination, Written Ability Test, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview. National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the written examination in a computer-based (online) mode. Let’s take a look at all the aspects of the selection process in detail for IIFT 2021.
Step 1: Written Examination: The IIFT Entrance Exam holds the top percentile of 45 percent in the overall weightage for final selection. IIFT 2021 took place on 24th January’2021, and the results came out on 16th February’2021. The syllabus included Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge. Step 2: Shortlisting of Candidates basis IIFT Exam and other parameters: After the entrance exam, the minimum cut-off percentile is decided based on the number of candidates to be shortlisted as per the availability of seats. The female gets the benefit of 2 marks more minor than the actual cut-off as per IIFT’s policy of gender diversity. The marks obtained in Class X and XII have weightage in the final selection criteria. Non-Engineers get the benefit of extra five marks in the selection criteria.

Step 3: Written Ability Test (WAT): The successful candidates who meet the cut-off have to submit an essay on a given topic. The candidates are then evaluated based on clarity, ability to comprehend, the technique of presentation, and expression of ideas for the given topic. The topics vary from business, politics, economy, and society. The candidates get five minutes to think and another fifteen minutes to write the essay.
Step 4: Group Discussion (GD): A group of candidates gets a topic to discuss amongst themselves. The candidates were judged to demonstrate leadership skills, team player skills, communication, content, and providing new insights into the topic. The total time duration is 30 to 40 minutes. The group discussion begins with an introduction and sharing the opinion on the topic by each candidate. Then the floor is left open for everyone to come forward and seize the initiative to display innovativeness, leadership skills, and communication with other group members.
Step 5: Personal Interview (PI): Personal Interview focuses on the personality assessment of the candidate based on academic, extra-curricular, and analytical performance. The interviewer asks questions relating to work experience, education, and other topics to assess the candidate’s communication ability, presence of mind, and problem-solving skills.

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade placement is one of the most prominent placement events which attracts many National and International companies to hire students in various posts. IIFT now has four campuses and a 100% placement record for all students year after year. Top salaries offered to students have gone as high as 1 Crore INR. In 2021, the students witnessed an average higher salary of INR 21.08 Lakhs, and the highest salary being INR 46.05 Lakhs. Listed below are the key highlights of the 2021 placement session:
- The number of Recruiters has gone up to 117 from 107 in 2020.
- Leading recruiters include KPMG, Bajaj Finserv, GSK, Tata Steel, Cognizant, Mckinsey, Goldman Sachs, Yes Bank, etc.
- Sales & Marketing Domain was the top recruiting domain in 2021.
- Many new recruiters joined this year, such as Shangrila Corporate Services, BenQ, Xiaomi, KPMG, United Breweries, Welspun, were included in the placement session.
- Sector & Domain wise Placements: Sales & Marketing secured 24% share followed by Finance at 22%. Consulting Doman got 75 offers, followed by IT & Analytics students got 55 offers from IT Giants and Startups.
