Interior design has come a long way over the years, and color has been a part of design during all that time. But that doesn’t mean that everyone knows how to coordinate colors in the design. While you might hire the best interior architects Melbourne has available, it doesn’t necessarily mean they have an eye for interior design. So, we are going to share some basics of interior design with you to help you figure out your next project. There are some basics you can follow to ensure color coordination is done well. When you don’t coordinate the colors well, the whole concept may look off. With these basic concepts, you will never go wrong.

Here are some interior design basics for color coordination you can use in a room:-

1. Basic Colors

When you want to learn the basics of color coordination, you also need to know the power of primary colors. These are the ones that set the tone for the whole experience.

And there are three types of basic color ideas:

  • Primary – blue, Red, and Yellow. With these colors, you can’t get them from mixing other colors
  • Secondary – Green, Orange, and Purple. They can be made by mixing up the primary colors
  • Tertiary – when you combine primary and secondary colors, you get at least six shades that you can get.

If you don’t know where you can start from, you need to ensure that you start from the twelve above. Design can be a bit complex if you opt to go for complicated colors. With these, you can quickly move around and coordinate stress-free.

Use the Color Wheel

You may need to dust up some of your knowledge skills if you get this right again. When you use the wheel, you quickly find out which colors fit together and those that can’t. It takes half the work of coordinating. You don’t need to find a physical color wheel today; you can use countless digital ones. Just search for the wheels online, and you’ll get plenty of options. For example, Paletton will enable you to create your scheme. But, of course, this is done in the comfort of your couch.

Changing Colors with Neutrals

And when you feel you still can’t figure it out, you may need to change the colors with neutral tones. You can also pair the color you choose with a neutral to make it either darker or lighter.

Here are the ideas that can come from coordinating your base color with a neutral:

  • Tone – slightly darker and achieved by adding grey
  • Tint – lighting color by adding white
  • Shade – you get this when you darken a color by adding black

Understand Color Temperature

There are times you hear of color temperature and wonder how that works. This is more or less the idea of having a warm color to tone up your dining room.

And there are different colors with different temperatures:

  • Red, yellow, and orange are described as a warm color
  • Green, purple and blue are cool colors

The size of the room should determine the temperature of the color.
