Coronavirus Delta Plus Variant Symptoms, Covid-19 Cases in India Live Updates: India on Monday recorded nearly 50,000 new coronavirus cases. The latest health ministry bulletin said that 46,148 fresh cases were detected in the last 24 hours. In what can be termed as a major respite, the number of daily Covid deaths has also dipped below 1,000. This was the first time in nearly 80 days that India saw any decline in corona fatalities. The experts say that in comparison with the first wave, the second wave saw a long period of high Covid fatalities.
Elsewhere, the major nations around the globe have started introducing a fresh round of stringent lockdowns to tackle the surge of the Delta variant of the coronavirus. While Bangladesh has entered the 7-day hard lockdown from today, Russia has also reported new outbreaks in Moscow and St Petersburg. In Australia, Sydney is already under lockdown and the latest reports suggest that the expert group may widen the ambit of the curbs across the country. Neighbouring New Zealand, which was among the very first nations in the world to completely stop the spread of the virus, is now worried about the situation in Australia. New Zealand is likely to issue fresh alerts and mask mandates in the country.
Back home, in Maharashtra, the Uddhav Thackeray government has decided to reimpose the Level-3 curbs in some big towns amid the emergence of the Delta Plus variant. Maharashtra has the maximum number of Delta Plus cases in the country. With Monday’s order, cities such as Pune, Nagpur and Thane will see new restrictions.
On the vaccination front, some cheer for Indians. After the lacklustre and messy rollout in the initial phase, the national inoculation programme has picked up pace since the introduction of the new vaccine plan on June 21st. If we look at the CoWin data, on average, 60 lakh Indians were vaccinated after the blockbuster show on June 21st. Though there are concerns over the shortfall, many say that the increased rate of vaccination may help in staving off the potential risk of the third wave of the coronavirus in India.
As new studies bring fresh insights on the virus mutations, here are the latest Covid-related updates from India and around the globe:
