Contact With Asbestos Can Put You at Risk

Asbestos is a material that was popular in building supplies and was present in the majority of homes and businesses for many years. More recently, it has been shown to be unsafe if it is disturbed or damaged in any way, and it must be safely removed and disposed of if any renovations or changes are being made to the building. Ensuring its safe removal and disposal will protect the health of everyone in the building.

Friable, Non-friable Safe Asbestos Waste Removal

Asbestos releases tiny fibers into the air, which are then inhaled and can become embedded in the lungs. There they cause small tears in the inner lining of the lungs, and scar tissue will form. Ongoing lunch and respiratory concerns can form and lead to cancer or other illness.

Some forms are safe as long as they are not damaged or disturbed in any way. They will retain their shape and not become a health risk. Other types are easily damaged and will fall apart, which allows tiny fibers to enter the air and be breathed in by people in the area, leading to lung damage and health concerns. Coming into contact with asbestos of any type can be a risk to the health of people who are doing renovations, who are changing the wallpaper or upgrading insulation, and can become ill from the contact. Friable asbestos is the most dangerous as the asbestos is not encapsulated within other materials. It is easily crumbled when something comes in contact with it, and that allows for the fibers to become airborne easily. Once it has become airborne, it can be consumed and lead to health concerns in the digestive system, or it is inhaled and will cause damage to the lungs. Non-friable asbestos is less dangerous as it is bonded with another material that helps to keep it structured and prevents it from becoming airborne. This is included in flooring, bricks, and cement. This type will become airborne if it is broken, sanded, or otherwise damaged. In order to safely remove asbestos, it is dampened with water to keep down any dust particles, and it is removed by people who are dressed in safety gear. A reverse vacuum is created to keep particles from leaving the area and to avoid the spread of the asbestos fibers. It is then contained in plastic bags that are sealed shut, which are then placed in a second bag that is also sealed. These bags are removed from the building and disposed of according to the safe disposal rules of the area, often in a separate part of a landfill or other disposal site. It is necessary to use a company that is fully trained and certified in asbestos removal in order to ensure its safe removal from any building. Melbourne asbestos services are able to remove either friable or non-friable asbestos from any building.
